Are you looking to expand your social media advertising onto other channels as well? Instagram may be the answer.
The network was purchased by Facebook back in 2012 and for a year and a half now, has been experimenting with advertising. Up until now, only a select group of marketers were able to post photo/video advertisements on the platform, but Instagram recently announced they will be opening the gates for a larger, yet still limited, group of partners. These partners are also companies that are currently advertising on Facebook.
Based on this piece of official information, we believe it’s safe to assume that it won’t be long until we, the regular marketers, will be able to use Instagram.
“People come to Instagram to follow their passions, from travel and fashion to cars and entertainment. People want to connect with businesses of all sizes on Instagram, from their favourite local clothing stores and restaurants to the largest brands in the world. We’re excited to bring Instagram ads to more advertisers and to help support more objectives, which are capabilities that people and businesses have been asking for,” the company said.
The platform will definitely work with Facebook in the areas of ad targeting.
“These updates completely change the character and nature of Instagram advertising. New ways to target and an API are both things that advertisers have been asking for a long time,” said Debra Aho Williamson, principal analyst at eMarketer.
Until now, Instagram was supported by Facebook. We knew it was just a matter of time until they would start monetizing it. Now, the future is here.
